PARK RUSHES OIL & GAS MANAGEMENT PLAN-In late July, some Tennessee
oil and gas operators received a four color eight-page brochure from the National
Park Service, announcing that the Park Service was preparing an oil and national
gas management plan and environmental statement. That was no surprise, but
the timing was. Without offering a draft of the plan for study, the Park Service
announced a schedule of open houses to be held from August 7th through August
10th. Written comments are to be received by September 5th, prior to the next
TOGA meeting. Not every operator, with wells in the park, received the brochure.
A letter from TOGA has been sent to the Park Service commenting on the untimely
schedule.
PLAN TO ATTEND, SPEAK AT ONE OR MORE PARK OPEN HOUSES-If you operate in Tennessee, you may want to attend one of the scheduled open houses. Just because you don't have a well in the park, don't think you won't be impacted. Park officials want a voice in everything that happens in the parks watershed. The 6:30 p.m. public open houses are scheduled as follows: Monday, August 7th, Jamestown Community Center, 629 Main Street, Jamestown, TN; Tuesday, August 8th, Scott County Office Building Conference Room, 2845 Baker Hwy, Huntsville, TN; Wednesday, August 9th, Midtown Community Center, 102 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge TN; Thursday, August 10th South Fork Inn/Best Western Conference Room 1116 North Hwy 27, Whitley City, KY.
SEND COMMENTS TO PARK OFFICIALS VIA MAIL OR E-MAIL-If you can't attend one of the open houses, you can mail your comments to: Office of the Superintendent, Reed Detring, Big South Form NRRA, 4564 Leatherwood Road, Oneida, TN 37841 or Office of the Unit Manager, Phil Campbell, Obed Wild and Scenic River, 208 North Maiden Street, Wartburg, TN 379887. Or you can comment on-line using the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment web site at http://parkplaning.nps.gov/BISO. Comments should be received by September 5, 2006.
