SPONSORS, AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED FOR TOGA CONVENTION -
The 40th annual meeting of the Tennessee Oil & Gas Association,
May 11-13 at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville may
be the best ever yet. But we still need sponsors and auction
items. Lobbying costs have depleted the TOGA budget. Sponsors
help offset the cost of the convention as does money raised
at the auction. If you can help, call Vicki Griffith at 865-457-9300.
COME HAVE FUN IN NASHVILLE - There will plenty to
do and plenty of time for fun at the TOGA Convention. The
convention opens with a golf outing at the Hermitage Golf
Course on Wednesday. That evening there is a gala welcome
reception at the hotel. There is a full day of technical sessions
Thursday, plus a Spouses Trip and the Keynote luncheon, featuring
State Representative Kelly Keisling. That evening there will
be dinner, entertainment and an auction in the court yard
at the hotel. The convention wraps up Friday with the annual
membership meeting. Registration for members is $215 before
April 19th and $240 after that. For non-members it is $265
before the 19th and $295 after that. A block of rooms has
been reserved at a rate of $139, but you need to make your
reservation by April 10. And more sponsors are needed. For
more information, registration forms, etc., go to the TOGA
website at www.tennoil.com.
PAUL SLOAN REPLACED AT TDEC - Paul Sloan, who has
been in charge of environmental regulations for Tennessee
Department of Environment and Conservation, has been replaced
by Shari Meghreblian, who has worked as the General Motors
environmental manager since 2005. She was named to the position
Thursday, April 2st, by TDEC Commissioner Bob Martineau. Sloan
is believed to have been responsible for the movement of oil
and gas regulations from Geology to Water Pollution Control.
RESOLUTION BETTER THAN A LAW - We won a partial victory
in the Tennessee House Conservation and Environment Committee
on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, when the committee passed Resolution
98 that read: "BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF RESPRESENTATIVES
OF THE ONE HUNDERD SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF
TENNESSEE, that this Body hereby encourages representatives
of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation,
the Tennessee Oil & Gas Association (TOGA), and the public,
represented by the league of Women Voters and the Tennessee
Conservation Voters, to meet with the purpose of proposing
regulations to provide necessary oversight for the use of
hydrological fracturing as a method of modern natural gas
extraction in Tennessee. The goal of these regulations, to
be presented to the Oil & Gas Board for consideration,
shall be to protect Tennessee's groundwater quality and drinking
water supplies, to protect the collative rights of the land
and mineral owners, and all for the development, protection
and management of the resources of natural gas deposits."
We retained a top lobbying firm to represent us in the legislature.
HELP NEEDED PAYING FOR OUR LOBBYING EFFORT - Our industry
is under attack and won't be the last time. We have to fight
back both in the legislature and against unfair regulation.
Please send your check today for $50, $100, $250 or more,
if you can. Send your check to: TOGA, 750 Old Hickory Blvd,
Suite 150-2, Brentwood, TN, 37027. If you have any questions

OIL & GAS BOARD MEETS MAY 4-5 - The Tennessee
Oil & Gas Board will meet May 4th and 5th at 9:00 a.m.
in the 17th floor conference room of the L&C Tower. On
the agenda is a request for a spacing variance by Miller Petroleum
and to hear a contested case of RLS, Inc, assessed a $70,000
penalty a wide range of safety and environmental issues.
FENTRESS COUNTY LAND TO LEASE - Gerry & Margaret
Mclean have recently moved to Fentress County and are leasing
their land which is just off highway 62, near Muddy Pond on
Campground Road. If interested in leasing their property,
call them at 931-863-2207.
SECOND REG FORUM SAME AS THE FIRST -- Following the
first public hearing, held February 22nd in Knoxville, the
Water Pollution Control staff held a second public hearing
on the proposed changes to the oil and gas regulations, despite
the fact that the proposed changes were never mentioned by
any of those attending the first hearing. TOGA chose to skip
the second public hearing and submit comments in writing.
The proposed new regs will be presented to the Oil & Gas
Board for action later this year.
