LT. GOVERNOR RAMSEY PROMISES MOVE BACK TO GEOLOGY
- Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey, a candidate for Governor, followed
up his speech to the TOGA convention, with a letter to members
promising to move regulatory functions of oil and gas, back
to Geology. His letter, dated May 27, 2010 said: I understand
that your industry has faced challenges, especially since
regulatory functions were moved to Water Pollution Control.
Water Pollution Control does not understand your industry
and therefore is unable to fairly regulate it. Their actions
have slowed the development of Tennessee's natural resources,
and if I am Governor, I will move the regulatory functions
of oil and gas to the Division of Geology.
WASHBURN ELECTED TOGA PRESIDENT - Jim Washburn, a
Cookeville-based consulting geologist was elected president
of the Tennessee Oil & Gas Association during the organizations
30th annual convention, held at the Marriott Hotel, Knoxville,
May 12-14, 2010.
GRIFFITH, BYRD RE-ELECTED, BOARD OF DIRECTORS EXPANDED
- Vicki Griffith of Griffith Services, Oak Ridge, Convention
Chairman, was re-elected Vice President of TOGA at the Board
of Director's meeting, following the general membership meeting
on Friday, May 14th. Anne Byrd was re-elected as Secretary
Treasurer. Earlier the membership voted to expand the board
of directors. New board members are: James Bruner, Planet
Energy LLC, Brian Green, CNX Gas, Lonnie Jeffers, Universal
Well Services, Eugene Lockyear, East Tennessee Consultants,
a division of Miller Energy Resources, and Doug Roberts, Atlas
Energy. Inc. Also serving on the board of directors are: Scott
Gilbert, Vinland Energy: Gary Bible, Miller Energy Resources;
John Bonar, Atlas Energy, Inc,; Brint Camp, NGAS Producing
Co., Bill Goodwin, TMD Energy; Mark Liming, Liming Operating;
Deloy Miller, Miller Energy Resources; Robert Nelson, AC Insurance;
Bill Ray, Bill Ray Oil Producer, and Lynn Wagoner, Signature
Oil Corporation.
SCOTT BORUFF NAMED OIL MAN OF THE YEAR - Scott Boruff,
CEO, Miller Energy Resources, was named 2009 Tennessee Oil
Man of the Year at TOGA's annual convention in Knoxville,
May 13th. Boruff lead the transformation of Miller from a
bulletin board listed public company, with operations only
in Tennessee, to a NASDAQ listed company with operations in
Tennessee and Alaska. Under Boruff's leadership, the price
of the stock went from $.25 to $6 in less than a year.
SEPTEMBER 9TH BOARD MEETING TO FOCUS ON SPILLS - When
the TOGA Board of Directors meet Thursday, September 9th in
Oneida, at the old First Trust Bank building, now owned by
Bill Ray, the focus of the meeting will be on spills and other
emergencies. "This recent BP spill is a chilling reminder
that spills do happen and we need to be prepared," said
TOGA president Jim Washburn. "We will have one of spill
trailers on site for inspection and we will review our emergency
response plans during the meeting. Anyone interested in participating
in a TOGA emergency response effort or has any suggestions
on how to improve it, is encouraged to attend this meeting,"
he added. As always, there is a standing invitation for any
member or guest to attend the association's board of director
meetings.
NO SUPRISES AT THE OIL & GAS BOARD HEARING, MAY 24TH
- The Tennessee Oil & Gas Board met May 24th and voted
to allow: National Energy Development its requested drilling
variance and rejected Rome Oil & Gas request to test a
vacuum pump on a well in Pickett County. Alan Rader's proposed
rule change for the Mineral Test Hole regulations was sent
back to the staff and Rader for study and a recommendation
to be considered at a future meeting.
SAY GOOD BYE TO 40 MEMBERS - Nearly 40 TOGA members
have not paid their 2010 dues. Their membership will be terminated
if they don't respond to the third and final request for payment.
Each board member was emailed a list of those who have not
renewed and have been asked to contact any they know personally
and encourage them to renew their membership. Please make
certain your dues have been paid. We need you in our never
ending fight with legislators, regulators and environmental
activists who would like to see us out of business.
OPRYLAND HOTEL REOPEN NOV 15, TOGA PARTY ON -
Gaylord Opryland officials has announced that the Opryland
Hotel, destroyed by the recent Nashville flood, will reopen
no later than November 15, 2010. If they make that deadline,
the TOGA 2010 Christmas Party will be held December 11th,
2010 at the OPRYLAND RESORT AND CONVENTION CENTER IN NASHVILLE.
Rooms are specially priced at $189 plus taxes, single or double
occupancy. Atrium rooms are $35 more. Stay tuned for more
