OIL & GAS BOARD HEARING, JULY 15, TOGA ON AGENDA-TOGA president Scott Gilbert is scheduled to appear before the Tennessee Oil & Gas Board on July 15h, to outline the association's concern about the frequent use of written and unwritten policy by the Water Pollution Control staff. Gilbert will tell the board he believes that policy should always be written and presented to the Oil & Gas Board for a public hearing before being enforced. The board then could approve, modify or disapprove the staff- drafted policy. TOGA concerns cover the new casing policy, plug or produce policy, abandon well policy and other areas. The oil and gas board meets on the 11th floor of the L&C Building, 401 Church, Nashville, TN.

BRUNER NAMED OILMAN OF THE YEAR-James C. Bruner, New River Energy, LLC, was named Oilman of the Year for 2008 during the 2009 TOGA convention in Knoxville. Bruner earned the award for his effort in building a major lease position, which attracted CNX Gas and Atlas America into Tennessee.

PLUGGING TOUR SCHEDULED-Mike Burton, Oil & Gas Supervisor, reports that there will be a plugging tour for those who want to bid on the next round of plugging of abandon wells by the state. The two day tour starts Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. CST, from the Hardees parking lot in Livingston. Friday's schedule depends upon how many well sites are visited on Thursday. Most of the wells to be plugged are in Overton, Pickett, Fentress and Morgan counties.

TOGA DIDN'T ELECT GUESS, IT ELECTED GRIFFITH VP-Vickie Guess was most of the TOGA board's choice for election to the position as Vice President and they planned to elect her to the post at the convention. But before she got to the convention, she and Ronnie Griffith got married. So when it was announced in the newsletter last month that Guess was elected vice president, it wasn't quite correct. Same person, different name. Ronnie reports that he is in charge in this marriage. He always gets the last word in any discussion, when he concludes with, "anything you say, Vicki."

TOGA SEEKS HOST, SITE FOR NEXT MEETING-The next quarterly meeting of the Tennessee Oil & Gas Board will be held in September. At this time, we don't have a meeting, site, host or sponsor. If you have any suggestions as to where to hold the meeting or if you are interesting in sponsoring, hosting or co-hosting, contact Scott Gilbert at 865-679-6161.

SHANNON BORUFF PASSES AWAY-On Tuesday, June 30th, Shannon Boruff lost her long running battle with cancer and passed away. Shannon was the daughter of Sharon and Deloy Miller and the wife of Scott Boruff, Miller Petroleum CEO. Funeral services were held in Knoxville on Friday, July 3, 2009.

IOGCC SEEKS ENVIRONMENTAL NOMINEES- The Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission is seeking nominations for the 2009 Chairman's Stewardship Award to honor outstanding environmental and educational stewards of the oil and gas industry. Nominations must be received by August 3. For more information log on to www.iogcc.state.ok.us or contact Tiffany Batdorf at 405-525-3556, extension 114.

ENGINEER LOOKING-I live in Oklahoma but want to move to Tennessee in a few years. I have a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology and a MS in Engineering Technology Management, plus two year oil and gas experience. I also spent 5 years on duty aboard a Nuclear Powered Submarine. Contact Jimmy Wren at Letumland@yahoo.com for a copy of his resume.

28 MEMBERS BEING DROPPED FROM MEMBERSHIP ROLES-The TOGA offices sent final dues notices to 51 members who have not paid their dues. So far all but 28 have responded. Those members will be dropped from the roles and will not be included in the 2009-2010 directory, now being compiled. They will receive this newsletter but that is the last one. If you are uncertain if you have paid or not, contact Teresa at the TOGA office at 615-371-6137.

CHRISTMAS PARTY DEC. 12TH, DANCING BEAR LODGE-Toga President Scott Gilbert has announced that the TOGA Christmas Party will return to the Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend again this year. More details later this year.

TVA PLANS NATURAL GAS PLANT FOR TENNESSEE- TVA has announced plans to build a $820 million natural gas power plant in northeastern Tennessee to comply with a North Carolina air quality suit. TVA says it can get the three gas turbines at the new plant on line by the end of 2011 and is considering a site near the John Sevier coal-fired plant near Rogersville.
