SOMERSET REFINERY BANKRUPTCY UNCERTAIN-The status of the Somerset Refinery Bankruptcy varies greatly, depending upon who you talk to. We have been reluctant to comment on the status of Somerset since we were almost involved in a lawsuit as the result of an earlier comment in the newsletter. That announced buyer is long gone.

What is certain is that in April 2007 the owners of the Somerset Refinery and South Kentucky Purchasing Company sold their interest in the companies, through a stock exchange agreement, to USA Energy Corporation. Very shortly thereafter, USA Energy put the refinery into bankruptcy. Those within the USA Energy Corp. say the bankruptcy is proceeding and all shall be paid soon. Others say that the bankruptcy will be set aside and others will take USA Energy's place in control of the refinery. Stay tuned.

WARREN COUNTY OPPORTUNITY I live in Warren County. In the 1970's oil and gas was found on my property. The well was not put into production because the drilling rig caught fire and burned a portion of the field. The farmer then kicked them off the land. I have a copy of the lease, but the company is out of business. Is there some way of finding out if any company is interested in looking at the information and checking if it is worth drilling a well. Everett Lerch, 499 Peach Ave, Morrison, TN 37357, call 931-233-1084

CANNON COUNTY OPPORTUNITY-I have a water well approximately 250 feet deep that has what appears to have oil only. The substance will burn and can be reached within 18 inches of the ground. Located on Wilmouth Creek Rd, Gassway, Tennessee. Agent for the property-Jerry Spurlock. Home 615-597-1380, cell 931-284-1549, Owner: Jim King 615-563-5464.

COOKEVILLE AREA OPPORTUNITY-We live on a 177 acre farm north of Cookeville. We have large ridges of shale and black sulfur water. We were told by a geologist these are both good signs of oil and we should contact an oil company. In the 1960's, an adjacent farm had an active oil well. The previous owner would not let oil company's drill. If interested, please contact Pat Cowart at 931-268-1370.

KNOXVILLE AREA OPPORTUNITY - I was referred to you by Jim Pryor about drilling for gas on my land at Mohawk, TN. The land is about 40 miles east of Knoxville and is located at the end of Bay's mountain. The underlying strata is shale. AMOCO had a lease on the land for about 10 years in 1991. The adjoining landowners had leases with AMOCO. The land area would involve about 2100 acres. Contact Lowell Sluss, 1983 Vernon Rd., Johnson City, TN 37615.

SEVIER COUNTY OPPORTUNITY - My husband recently dug a pond near a natural spring in our front yard. The pond is now black with oil and there are large clumps of oil in the runoff water. The fish in the pond are dying and the pond is only a month old. Have we struck oil? Who can we contact? Lara Carr, 2025 Old Happy Hollow Rd., Sevierville, TN 37876. call 865-436-9327.

LEXINGTON AREA OPPORTUNITY - We have 110 acres SE of Lexington, TN. We have a spring fed creek that always has a rusty tinged color to the soil and an oily sheen on the surface. BETHPAGE AREA OPPORTUNITY - We own mineral rights to our land in Bethpage, TN, about 19 miles south of Scottsville, KY. In 1949 an Oklahoma oil man leased 6,000 acres and drilled a well on our land. They hit oil at 350 feet and at 550 ft and then the 3rd largest gas well in the state at the time. The oil man said it was a million cubic feet a day well. He capped it off and planned more drilling but died. We would like to find someone to finish drilling for the mother load. Contact:
