STATE NOT READY TO RETURN REGS TO GEOLOGY- TOGA officials met Monday, January 8th, with state regulators, lead by Assistant Commissioner Paul Sloan, and learned that the state is not receptive to TOGA's request to move the regulation of oil and gas back to the Division of Geology. Sloan did agree that there was considerable conflict between regulators and operators and suggested forming a task force to look into the problems. President Lynn Wagoner and directors Bill Goodwin and Jim Washburn, represented TOGA. In addition to Commissioner Sloan, the state was represented by Mike Burton and Paul Schmierbach. An attorney for the state and another official participated.
TOGA BOARD AGREES TO STRONGER REVIEW-The TOGA board of directors, meeting by conference call, voted to move forward with a "Stronger" review of state oil and gas regulations. The Stronger plan, presented to the association at its 2006 convention, calls for an out of state regulator, oil man and environmentalists to review a state's oil and gas regulations and offer suggestions for changes. The state is not obligated to make those changes. This plan was discussed with state officials during the meeting with TOGA representatives. State officials said during the January 8th meeting they would be receptive to such a review. While some TOGA directors were apprehensive about such a review, the feeling was that the way things are, we really don't have much to lose.
SITE COORDINATOR TRAINING SESSION SOON-The TOGA office has been contacted by several individuals interested in attending the next Site Coordinator training session. A session will be scheduled just as soon as there are at least five signed up to attend. If you have an interest in attending, contact trainer Chuck Murchison at the TOGA office at 615-371-6137. Leave a message and he will get back to you. And if you have called the office or told Bill Goodwin of your interest, it would be wise to remind him by leaving a message at the TOGA office.
EXHIBITORS SLOTS FILLING UP FOR 36TH TOGA CONVENTION More than a dozen companies have indicated an interest at being an exhibitor at the 2007 TOGA convention in Nashville, May 9th through the 11th. Five companies have paid for booths already. Those companies include: American Innovations, Austin, Texas; Parmaco of Parkersville; Sherware, Inc., Apple Creek, Ohio; H-Jet Well Services; Edmonton, KY and Aqua-Clear, Inc., Charleston, West Virginia. Each day more companies are responding to the invitation sent by TOGA President Lynn Wagoner, inviting them to participate in this first-ever event. As an incentive, non-TOGA members will receive one free one-year membership in TOGA with their booth. A single booth is priced at $400 and a double booth is $700, if paid by March 10, 2007. If you are interested in having a booth at the TOGA convention, contact President Wagoner at 800-278-6164.
RESERVE YOUR CONVENTION ROOM NOW- The 2007 TOGA convention, to be held May 9th through the 11th at the Embassy Suites, Cool Springs in Williamson County, is rapidly approaching. President Wagoner and convention co-chairman Bob Nelson suggest making your reservations early. Hotel reservations can be made by calling 1-800-Emnbassy or 615-515-5151.
CALL FOR CONVENTION SPEAKERS-President Wagoner is looking for speakers for the convention technical sessions. If you are interested in speaking or want to suggest a speaker, contact Lynn at 800-278-6164.
WEB, PR HELP AVAILABLE-Doug Stafford and his firm CVB Media have been helping the oil and gas industry in Kentucky and Tennessee for the past ten years. He specializes in things like website design and hosting, printed materials like brochures, fliers and reports, logos, PowerPoint presentations and all other marketing communication that most business owners hate to mess with, but often need. Area clients include our own TOGA website, Signature Oil, Miller Petroleum and Tengasco. Although he has never pushed pipe, he has been around the oil and gas industry for most of his life (National Association of Royalty Owners) and is comfortable with the terminology. So, if you need something to look good, work well, and come in on time and under budget, give Doug a call at 405-306-3062 or email him at doug@cvbmedia.com.
EXPERIENCED LANDMAN AVAILABLE- I am a landman with 15 years experience in the Basin. I have recently relocated to Nashville with my family and I'm interested in working in TN. My experience in the land phase of the oil and gas industry is very broad. I am currently project manager for a major producer in central PA and would be interested in talking with a smaller independent in the TN/KY region of the basin (closer to home).
