REG CHANGES EXPECTED FOR MARCH OIL & GAS BOARD MEETING
- The Water Pollution Control staff is working on some new
and updated regulations that are expected to be proposed at
the March Oil & Gas Board meeting. The meeting date has
not been set as yet and TOGA expects to be able to study the
regulation proposals by the staff prior to the meeting. TOGA
President Scott Gilbert will schedule a special TOGA Board
of Directors meeting prior to the Oil & Gas Board meeting
to review the proposed regs and draft comments.
SOMERSET REFINERY CLOSES - Two years and $22 million
later, the owners of Somerset Refinery are calling it quits
and putting a sale sign on the plant, according to a February
8th article in the Somerset Commonwealth Journal. "We
simply weren't able to buy enough crude oil to process to
keep our doors open," said Ed Phelps, IT director and
spokesman for the owners. The article says the owners from
New York invested $20 million to upgrade and modernize the
plant. Phelps pointed out that producers may see transportation
for hauling crude to a refinery escalate now that Somerset
Refinery has closed.
STATE WAITING TIL THE CHECK CLEARS - Watch out! It
appears the state is now waiting for a drilling permit check
to clear the bank before letting Mike Burton process a drilling
permit, which will add a couple of days or more to the time
it takes to get a permit.
CONSULTING GEOLOGIST READY TO WORK IN NASHVILLE -
Texas geologist Grayson and his wife have relocated to the
Nashville to be near their daughter and grand kids so he is
available for consulting jobs in Nashville. Bob says he is
still learning the ins and outs of the oil business in Tennessee,
but brings years of experience in all phases of the oil and
gas business from high tech instrument work to obtaining investors,
leasing land, drilling and completing wells, operations and
even writing the production checks. He says he is interested
in getting involved in the industry here. Contact him at:

MILLER'S ALASKA UNIT REACHES 300 BOED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE-Miller
Petroleum, Inc. dba Miller Energy Resources ("Miller"),
(OTC BB: MILL:OB) reports that its recently acquired Alaskan
oil and gas operations are producing over 300 barrels of oil
equivalent a day (BOED) and expects to reach a rate of 1,100
BOED within eight weeks.
COAL AND OIL OPERATORS TEAM TO DEVELOP SHALE-Coal
mine operator Alpha Natural Resources is drilling its first
well in the Marcellus shale in a joint venture with Rice Energy.
The companies are investing $20 million in four wells this
year and could drill as many as 100 in the Marcellus shale.
Alpha's investment reflects growing interest by a variety
of energy companies in onshore natural gas. Exxon Mobil recently
bid $30 billion to buy natural gas producer XTO Energy. Alpha's
competitor, Consol Energy, has increasingly focused on natural
gas production in the face of stricter environmental regulation
of Appalachian coal mines.
