2001 TOGA CONVENTION DRAWS 130-Some 130 Tennessee Oil & Gas
Association members and guests were treated to good food and even better
speakers at the just completed 31st annual TOGA Convention in Knoxville. To top
it off, TOGA made a modest profit from the convention, thanks to the generosity
of the record 40 sponsors. "When
we only charge members $50 for registration and our food costs for a dinner,
breakfast, breaks and lunch is more than $60 per person, we really aren't trying
to make money on our convention. We
are trying to get more folks to come and it is working," said Bill Goodwin,
President. "When you see any
of our sponsors, thank them again for their help," he noted.

SOMERSET CEO FRANK LYNCH ELECTED TO TOGA BOARD- Frank Lynch, CEO, Somerset Refinery, was elected to the TOGA board. Lynch, who also keynoted the convention, said he hoped he was being elected to the board because of Somerset's continuing effort to support producers, not because Somerset hosted the 2001 TOGA Christmas party.
CONSOL ENERGY BEGINS GAS PRODUCTION IN TENNESSEE-CONSOL Energy, Inc. reports it is now producing 1.2 million cubic feet of gas per day from six wells it has drilled on some 270,000 acres it controls in Tennessee, through a joint venture called Knox Energy. A total of 14 wells have been drilled to date; six are producing, seven are awaiting hook-up and one is being evaluated. Knox Energy is a joint venture of CNX Gas Company, LLC and New River Energy. CNX Gas is a wholly owned subsidiary of CONSOL Energy, Inc., a public company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange. New River Energy is a privately held Tennessee company.

Deloy and Sharon Miller have offered to once again host the meeting. This event will be held on a Friday, September 6, 2002. More details will be provided in the next newsletter.
TOGA VOTES IN QUARTERLY MEETING SCHEDULE-The Tennessee Oil & Gas Association voted at its April meeting to began meeting quarterly, instead of monthly. During the board meeting at the 2002 convention, the board agreed to a schedule, which will include four board of directors meetings each year. The first will be held at the association’s winter meeting in Nashville in early March. The second meeting will be held during the convention, which will be in early June. The third board of directors meeting will be held at the Balon-Miller Cookout in early September. The final board meeting of the year will be held prior to the Christmas party, scheduled for early December, hosted by Somerset Refinery in Somerset.
ROY SHIRLEY RECOVERING QUICKLY-Roy Shirley is not officially back at work full time at the Somerset Refinery after recovering from triple bypass surgery, but you can’t tell his staff that. He was back on the job by phone a few days after he returned from the hospital. We are all glad to see he made it through this scare and is back at it. Welcome back, Roy.
