Ky/Tenn Report

Volume 8, Number 75, SEPTEMBER 2001

TOGA TO MEET AT MOUNTAIN VIEW, SEPTEMBER 27th-The Tennessee Oil & Gas Association will hold its monthly meeting at the Mountain View Golf Course and Lodge at 6:30 p.m. (CST), Thursday, September, 2001.. On the agenda are plans for an oil spill seminar, tentatively scheduled for October, a TOGA-Oil & Gas Board seminar on operating in Tennessee from forms to logs and plans for the Christmas Party.  The Mountain View Golf Course and Lodge is south of Allardt, which is just outside Jamestown. At the four-way stop in Allardt, turn south (toward Crossville).  The Mountain View Golf Club and Lodge is in the left about 3 miles down the road. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. ($3 each) with the meeting to start at 7:00 p.m.

HERE’S HOW TO GET ON THE WEB CHEAP-Juli Vaso, who many of you met at the TOGA convention (she answers the TOGA phone) will build you a web site for only $500.  Here is the deal: Juli just earned her Master’s Degree and until she gets a big time job, she has agreed to build web sites for TOGA members at her cost.  A 5 page site is only $500.  If you want to get really fancy, it will cost a bit more. Juli will also handle the reservation of your domain name, which gives you the exclusive right to use that name on the web. Once the site is build, your only cost will be about $25 a month for a web host and the same for someone to maintain the site.  So, your cost of maintaining a web site will be about $600 a year.  It is certainly worth it.  More than half our new members have joined after visiting our web site.  People who are looking for a way to do business in Tennessee are searching the web and finding the TOGA site.  You can have your site linked to the TOGA site, just like Miller, Tengasco, Citizens, TMD Energy, Somerset and others.  You don’t have to be a big company to have a web site but in today’s marketplace, if you don’t have a web site, you will be missing a lot of business. Give Juli a call and get started today 615-263-1291.

STONE STORMS BACK-Harold Stone, one of the true veterans of the oil patch, is back in business.  Harold Stone, Stone Construction Co., which is really one heck of a dozer, trucking, backhoe service is located in Crossville. You can reach Harold at 931-484-6519.  He is a real pro so you can’t find a job he can’t handle at a reasonable price and on time.  Harold is also the newest TOGA member.  Give him a call when you’re stuck.  You’ll be glad you did.

TOGA OIL SPILL SEMINAR SET FOR OCTOBER-The TOGA board voted at the August meeting to plan to hold a spill seminar in conjunction with the October TOGA meeting, scheduled for the Mountain View Lodge, October 25th.  We will have more details on the web and in the October newsletter.  In any case, if you are operating in Tennessee, you should plan to have a representative of your company attend.

OIL & GAS BOARD-TOGA ALSO PLANS SEMINAR-Mike Burton, assistant state geologist, reports that with all the new operators coming into Tennessee, he is covered up with questions and incorrectly filled out forms.  The only thing he isn’t covered up with is timely reports from many operators.  One of the problems is that the only way to learn how to operate in Tennessee is to do it and make mistakes along the way.  Mike agreed to co-host an informal seminar in the Division of Geology offices in downtown Nashville before the end of the year to help operators and their employees learn what information is available to them and what information they need to report to the state.  The seminar will feature everything from how to fill out all the forms for a permit, how to order maps by phone to finding production records for a particular area.  TOGA has tentatively agreed to co-host the event.  We will discuss it at the September TOGA meeting.

NEW SIDEWAYS HORIZONTAL DRILLING OFFERED-Jim Paletta, a sales representative for Sideways Horizontal Drilling, found TOGA on the web and e-mailed us that his firm has perfected a horizontal drilling process that consists of drilling a 7/8 to 1 inch hole in casing then blasting a lateral to get into the pay zone.  The process works on wells of 1,500 to 6,000 feet deep.  If you have any interest in learning more, give them a call at 801-971-0272 or 801-556-2656.

LYNN WAGONER ELECTED TO KOGA BOARD—Congratulations to TOGA board of director member, Lynn Wagoner, Signature Oil Corp., who was elected to the board of directors of the Kentucky Oil & Gas Association at its recent 65th annual meeting. Shirley Diamond, South Kentucky Purchasing Co, was also re-elected to the board.  Michael Wallen, Daugherty Petroleum, was elected president of the organization.
