Report CHRISTMAS PARTY NOVEMBER 30th IN SOMERSET- South Kentucky Purchasing Company and parent company Somerset Refinery will host the 2001 TOGA Christmas Party, Friday, November 30th in Somerset, Kentucky. "We really appreciate the Tennessee producers," said Frank Lynch, Somerset Refinery President. "This is our way of showing our appreciation. According to Shirley Diamond, South Kentucky Purchasing President, Somerset will host the Christmas party at the Eagle’s Nest Country Club and provide rooms for those attending the Christmas Party at the Hampton Inn in Somerset. "Reservations are a must. But as always, both members and guests are welcome. Call Juli at the TOGA office (615) 263-1291 or Treasurer Anne Byrd at (423) 569-5150 to make a reservation. SOMERSET REFINERY TOUR SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1ST-TOGA members and guests attending the Christmas party have been invited by Frank Lynch, Somerset Refinery President to tour the refinery on Saturday morning. "We have made a lot of improvements since the last TOGA tour. We are very proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to showing it to the TOGA members" said Lynch. TOGA BOARD VOTES TO RAISE FEES-Tennessee Oil & Gas Association board of directors voted at its September meeting to raise the registration fee for annual membership meetings from $25 a person to $50 per person and to raise the cost of the Christmas party from $25 per couple to $50 per couple. The board also voted to raise cost of the meal served at the monthly meeting from $3 to $7 (the actual cost of the meal). The board also voted to convert to a cash bar. "We had kept our costs low to encourage participation, which helped. Yet, even with these increases, the prices we are charging are still very affordable and certainly below prices charged by other associations," observed President Goodwin. SPILL SEMINAR SLATED FOR NOV. 30th, SOMERSET-TOGA will hold a half-day spill seminar prior to the Christmas party on Friday, November 30th in Somerset, Kentucky. "We have been trying to schedule this event for some time, but were having scheduling problems,” explained TOGA President Bill Goodwin. Then when Shirley Diamond, South Kentucky Purchasing President, offered to provide a primary speaker for the event, we felt we could combine the seminar with the Christmas party and the next day tour of the refinery. Plan now to attend. Spills can be costly. Develop a plan now to deal with a spill and hope it never comes. More details will be provided about the seminar in the November newsletter. TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS
FOR SEMINAR, INN, PARTY- If
you plan to attend the spill seminar, Christmas party, spend the night or all
three, the first thing to do is to call and make a reservation.
There is no charge for the seminar or the room.
The cost for the Christmas party is $50 per couple.
Now-here is how to get there:
The Hampton Inn is on Highway 27 between the Somerset Mall and the new Wal-Mart Superstore. South Kentucky has reserved 40 rooms, and it is first come-first serve, so call Anne at (423)-569-5150 or the TOGA office at (615)-293-1291 now. If you are coming directly to the Eagle’s Nest Country Club-take Highway 27 north to the East 80 Bypass, Turn right (east) and go to the third stop light (not counting the one at 27 and 80). Turn left on Highway 39 and go about 5 miles. You will see a sign for the Eagle’s Nest Country Club. It will be a right turn into the club property. Soon you will come to a stop sign. Stop then turn left and continue on to the club. OIL DEMAND MAY NOT FALL, BUT SUPPLY WILL-According to Business Week, instead of worrying about a oil demand slow down, perhaps investors should be concerned about a shortfall in supply. According to a September 20th report by Raymond James & Associates, Houston, rising tensions in the Middle East means there is an 80% chance that U.S. supplies will be disrupted in the next two years. Shorter term, it says, there’s a 20 to 30% chance of a supply interruption if the U.S. targets terrorists’ organizations linked to oil-producing countries such as Iran and Iraq. Since the U.S. imports about 60% of its oil, a reduction in supply from overseas would push prices higher. If oil supplies to the U.S. were to fall by 3 million to 4 million barrels a OIL DEMAND (continued from page 1) day, for example, crude oil prices could soar as high as $40 to $50 says J. Marshall Adkins, managing director for energy research at Raymond James. Making matters even worse, U.S. producers are already producing all the oil they can, according to the American Petroleum Institute. And even a recession may not send demand plummeting. In the past five decades there were only a few years in which worldwide demand for oil fell. Of course, prediction the timing of an interruption is tough. So, oil prices are likely to jump $4 to $5 a barrel when news of an attack hits the wires.
