THANKS TO ANNE BYRD FOR THE GIFTS-Everyone at the Christmas party, including members of the band, got a beautifully-wrapped gift, thanks to Anne Byrd, TOGA Treasurer. Each year Anne shops for unique Christmas related gifts for everyone at the party. Anne’s friends tell us she loves to shop. That part was fun, but wrapping 100 gifts and bringing them from Oneida to Somerset was a lot of work. Many, many thanks, Anne. THANKS ALSO TO THE SPONSORS-Anne does the shopping and wrapping but someone has to pay for the gifts. That is where our sponsors come in. Sponsors for this year’s event include: AC Insurance, B&H Supply, Bill Ray, Citizens Gas Utility District, Mark Liming, Miller Petroleum, Pegasus Energy Resources, Pryor Oil, Rusty Liming, Signature Oil and Young Oil Corporation. The NAPE 2002 and the 2001 Annual Convention are two topics now slated for discussion. The Mountain View Golf Course and Lodge is south of Allardt, which is south of Jamestown. At the four-way stop in Allardt, turn south (toward Crossville). The Mountain View Golf Club and Lodge is on the left about 3 miles down. Informal reception at 6:00 pm.(CST), dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. TOGA BUYS BOOTH AT PROSPECT EXPO 2002, JANUARY 30th-The NAPE Expo is scheduled for January 30th in Houston. Sponsored by the AAPL & IPAA, it brings oil and gas property/prospects buyers and sellers together. TOGA had great exposure at a smaller prospect expo in Houston earlier this year and has reserved a booth for this event. We need several more sponsors at $100. Sponsors may either attend the event and work in the booth, or those of us planning to attend will help promote their prospects to the 8,000 buyers who attend this event each year. To be a sponsor, you need $100, something to promote and a one-page write-up on your property or prospect. Give TOGA a call at 615-263-1291 if you are interested in participating or have any questions. (And if you really want to meet a bunch of capable of raising money and looking for deals, you really need to plan to attend.) FREE QUAD MAPS ON THE WEB-TOGA member Peter Grimes of C.H. Fenstermaker & Associates, reports that they have completed posting all of the USGS quadrangle maps (1” =2000 ‘) of Tennessee on a new web site. The site for the maps is www.tnmaps.net. They are free to anyone who wants to download them. The files are compressed and run about 3 megs each. Once downloaded and un-zipped, they are about 9 megs each. YOUNG OIL HITS BIG KENTUCKY WELL-Young Oil Corp., drilled a shallow well in Metcalfe County, Kentucky with an IP of 200 BOD. The Sylvia Mitchell #3 was drilled to a total depth of 524 feet into a Fort Payne Reef, when it began flowing at a rate of 60 barrels an hour. The new Young well is a direct offset to a well that produced more than 100,000 barrels when completed in 1959. There has been very little drilling in Metcalfe County until Knob Lick, Kentucky-based Young Oil Corporation leased about 900 acres and kicked off a drilling program. FUTURE BRIGHT FOR NATURAL GAS-Short-term, year-to-year changes in natural gas demand, supply, prices and economic activity cannot mask the reality that America’s future depends on having access to secure, reasonable priced energy that is delivered safely and reliably, according to American Gas Association Chairman Nick Rose. The Energy Department projects a 45% increase in gas consumption by 2015, but in the past year, production was up not more than 2%. To address the demand, some 30,000 gas wells must be drilled each year. We are on track to drill only about 18,000 this year and that was a 60% over 1999. Gas prices will recover.
